Cleveland Kidnapper's House to be Demolished Wednesday

Tuesday, 06 August 2013 04:53 PM EDT

CLEVELAND — The nonprofit responsible for demolishing the Cleveland house where three women were imprisoned and raped for a decade is taking additional precautions to ensure that rubble does not end up for sale online.

The Plain Dealer in Cleveland is reporting reports that the Cuyahoga  Land Bank plans to complete the demolition of Ariel Castro's house in one day and shred all the building materials. A contractor is tearing down the home at no cost Wednesday.

The land bank's president Gus Frangos says the county is trying to keep away "scavengers" who later may try to sell the rubble as what is known as "murderabilia."

The 53-year-old Castro was sentenced last week to life in prison plus 1,000 years after pleading guilty to hundreds of kidnapping and rape charges.
