Mark Weinberg, a former press secretary for President Ronald Reagan, is heading the push to get the late actor an honorary Oscar, Fox News reports.

His comments came during an interview on Fox News' "The Story." He said Reagan should be honored by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences as the only one of its members to win the presidency.

Weinberg said Reagan felt snubbed by the motion picture industry did not commemorate or honor his tenure in the White House.

"I think it hurt him," he said. "It hurt his feelings."

Weinberg, author of "Movie Night with the Reagans," is now asking people to sign an online petition to get the academy to posthumously award an honorary Oscar to Reagan.

He noted Hollywood has always preached diversity.

"How about some diversity in political philosophy and going back and honoring the only one of their own who ascended to the presidency" he said.
