An editorial in the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday questions the growing call to impeach President Barack Obama coming from a number of pundits, including
Sarah Palin.
The newspaper
makes the argument that if the Republican Party gathers enough steam to take action on impeachment, it will simply serve to revitalize Democrats who are now turning away from the administration and drive them to the polls in November.
Impeachment is a complicated process that would distract from Obama's failed policies, the paper says.
"Focusing on impeachment lets Democrats off the hook on those progressive failures and plays into their claim that GOP opposition to Mr. Obama is personal," the editorial says. "Then there is the answer to nobody's question — President Biden? Impeachment fails to address any of the problems that Republicans are upset about."
The solution for conservatives? The Journal suggests working to elect a Republican Senate majority that could stop unworthy appointees and use budget reconciliation to pass policy reforms on Obamacare and other issues.
