Comic actor Will Ferrell will portray former President Ronald Reagan in a new movie focusing on Reagan's battle with Alzheimer's,
Variety reports.
"Reagan" begins at the outset of the president's second term and has him beginning to fall into dementia. An intern is given the job of convincing the former actor that he is actually playing the role of president for a movie.
Reagan's son Ron Reagan, told
ABC News in 2011 he first saw signs that were concerning during a presidential debate in 1984, but Reagan's oldest son, Michael Reagan, says his father did not suffer from the memory-impairing disease.
But even Ron Reagan said his father never was unaware he was president. Reagan announced six years after leaving office he had been diagnosed with the neurological disease.
Both Ferrell, who is also producing the film, and writer Mike Rosolio, have extensive comedy backgrounds, but the
Internet Movie Database listing for "Reagan" describes it as a drama.
No director has been signed, according to Variety, and the film is currently being shopped to studios.
