The family of a Virginia woman who passed away this week said she'd rather die than have to vote in this year's presidential election.

"Faced with the prospect of voting for either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, Mary Anne Noland of Richmond chose, instead, to pass into the eternal love of God," the obituary for the 68-year-old retired nurse reads.

It was Nolan's sons who wrote the obit for their mother — who died Sunday after a long battle with lung cancer, Jim Noland, her husband of 46 years, told NBC12.com.

He said the notice, published in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, was written tongue-in-cheek to carry on his wife's well-known sense of humor and says she's laughing along in heaven.

The unusual break from the somber tone of most obituaries has received national attention

One commenter, Dennis Wilder, wrote on the Noland's obituary page:

"The humor in the lead sentence of this memorial is pure Mary Anne. I will always remember her smile and her laugh. She found humor in everything in life, a quality I saw break through the tension on several occasions."

Another, Jodie, added: "Wow....what an amazing sense of humor she must have had. We need someone like her in office!!!"
