Netanyahu: Iran Has Never Been Weaker

By    |   Saturday, 08 February 2025 03:25 PM EST

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that while he and President Donald Trump are in agreement that Iran remains a threat to global stability, the country also has "never been weaker."

Speaking to Breitbart on Thursday, the prime minister emphasized that even though Iran has been pushed back thanks to the efforts of Israel and the U.S., the conflict isn't over.

"I think we've changed the Middle East by the bold actions Israel has taken," Netanyahu said. "We massively damaged the Iranian terror axis. It's never been weaker.

"But it's not over. An important component is to make sure that Iran does not get nuclear weapons."

Last year marked an infamous first in the decadeslong tension between Israel and Iran, as it was the first time the Islamic Republic ever launched a direct attack on the Jewish state.

In April, Iran launched a massive aerial attack, sending more than 300 drone and missiles into Israel. In October, Iran launched more than 180 ballistic missiles at Israel with several hitting the interior of the country.

The two leaders met on Tuesday and discussed their mutual objective to neutralize Iran while working to shift the balance of power in the Middle East "towards the U.S. axis."

Netanyahu presented Trump with a gold pager, in reference to the uniquely effective Mossad operation in which hundreds of rigged pagers and walkie-talkies exploded simultaneously, killing dozens of Hezbollah terrorists. Netanyahu said the operation marked a turning point in the war against the Iranian proxy.

Although Iran is weakened, Trump and Netanyahu agreed the country must never acquire nuclear capabilities that it could pass on to one of its terrorist groups.

"President Trump said as much, and I think he hit on the main point," Netanyahu said. "They're not going to get into how that can be achieved, but setting the goal clearly that must be achieved I think is a precondition for completing the historic change of the Middle East and creating a new future for Arabs and Jews alike.

"It is actually preventing something that is dangerous for the entire world, dangerous for Israel, and dangerous for the United States. You don't want the Ayatollah regime with nuclear weapons. That's a clear and present danger to the peace of the world."

The Israeli prime minister added that peace in the region and possible expansion of the Abraham Accords hinges not only on a nuclear-free Iran, but the total destruction of Hamas. If those two objectives are achieved, "peace agreements are possible not only with many Arab countries but also with the Muslim countries," he said.
