Spain’s government will seek a new 2-week extension of its state of emergency, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said.
The government will request parliament on May 6 to back extending the state of emergency, which currently runs through May 9, Sanchez said in a televised speech Saturday. State of emergency has proved it works to contain the expansion of coronavirus, which is now under control in Spain, Sanchez said.
Spain started state of emergency on March 14 and has subsequently extended it every two weeks.
